Dear Dr. Keyes,

After a lifetime of caring for my teeth exactly as dentists and periodontists had advised — brush and floss three times a day — my mouth was a mess. In early January 2004, two well-respected periodontists in San Diego said I needed extensive gum surgery — and soon! » more from Elizabeth Olson

Dear Dr. Keyes,

I am a big believer in the Keyes Method of dental care. Twenty five years ago I had gum surgery. A dozen years later, my dentist suggested I needed it again. » more from Sherry Innes

Dear Dr. Keyes,

Oh, you don't know how happy I am to find your website! I understand that you and my previous dentist, Dr. Dan Watt, started the International Dental Health Foundation. I was a patient of Dr. Watt when he was still practicing in Reston, Virginia. I won't go into it here, but I will say that it was a miracle that I found him. » more from Gaye Tiffany

Dear Dr. Keyes,

Thank you for your prompt response to my email. I'm so glad you are recommending Lynne Slim. I found her website shortly after emailing you. As a matter of fact, I just printed out an extremely informative article she wrote in 2005… » more from Gaye Tiffany

Dr. Keyes,

Thank you, thank you, thank you… All of my teeth are still healthy and in place, after nearly 25 years, thanks to your method. In 1982 I had periodontal surgery. Ironically, while waiting in the office I read an article in Readers Digest about your method. Nevertheless, I went ahead with the surgery. A year later I still had problems including very sensitive teeth — nothing hot or cold without pain. Even the mint in some toothpastes was painful. » more from David Curtis

Hello Dr. Keyes!

I don't know if you will remember me. You took me to lunch once at your country club. My name is Robert Denard Gubisch. You referred me to Dr. Davidson, who has since retired. But my teeth are all still, in my head! I think of you from time to time. You truly changed the course of my “oral” life, and that has TOTALLY affected the REST of my life. I hope that you are well.

I just wanted to say…THANK you for your presence in my life.

Sincerely, Robert Denard Gubisch

In my thirty plus years in dentistry, I have never seen a more concerted effort by a specialty group in dentistry to discredit, to distort and to misrepresent the efforts of a man who has been a giant contributor to the bulk of knowledge of dental disease, dental caries even more than periodontal disease. For forty plus years Keyes’ contributions to my profession, dentistry dwarfs the achievements of 99% of us. » more from Paul Cummings, DDS

The “prosecutors” of the Board, my competitors and adversaries, stated their opinion about “the falseness” of my ads in my stating that periodontal disease is “totally preventable.” When it was Dr. Keyes’ turn to testify as an expert authority, he was beautiful. He stated, “Certainly periodontal disease IS totally preventable. Something is either totally preventable, or it is not preventable at all. Like pregnancy is either totally preventable, or it is not preventable at all.” » more from Barry Solomon, DDS

I could not have imagined over 30 years ago, that I would ever get to meet you in person, a man of such esteem yet so modest. I had heard of you in the mid 1970s. Your name had been connected to some rather extreme research and was linked to words like “quackery,” “charlatan,” and other unflattering epithets. I was working for two well-respected periodontists in New Haven, Connecticut who were treating “pyorrhea” with gum surgery. The idea that baking soda and hydrogen peroxide could be used to manage that disease was so far-fetched. Although I had, on occasion, suggested it to some of our patients — with noticeable results — we believed that it was not the chemicals but the additional step in their oral hygiene that was responsible for the improvement in their tissues. Little did I know at that time about anaerobes, your studies, and the impact you would eventually come to have in dentistry. » more from Sheila Wolf, RDH
